Home comforts

I never thought I'd be so delighted to be woken up before 7am with a quiet but insistent knock at the door. But here I am at old friend Michaela and Duncan's spacious Bangkok pad and their four-year-old daughter Saffi is feeling sociable. It's welcome respite from travelling solo and taking pictures on self-timer. I also meet eight-month old Carissa, who is honing her speed-crawling skills.

The bird's eye views from the apartment are interesting in all directions.

Here's the pool, where my morning swim coincides with three ladies doing aqua aerobics, in French.

Here's another view, down onto Darlings massage parlour with the morning-after laundry billowing in the hot breeze.

This side looks towards town, with the Sky Train pulling into Nana station.

And this side... well... it speaks for itself.

We tour the neighbourhood taking in Saffi's school, a ride in the school tuk-tuk, some supermarket fun and games...

... and a local air-conditioned mall with an entire floor themed around London transport. Mind the gap.

Mic and Duncan's also boasts delicious home cooking courtesy of Mala.

I'll be back.
